How to turn a great photo op into a thank you card

After you have walked down the aisle and the celebration is over, there is one last element that you have to plan for: the thank you cards. You have to let your guests know that you are grateful they were able to share the momentous occasion with you, and a personal touch on a thank you card makes it mean so much more. With all of the photos you will take on your wedding day, you are sure to find one that will fit perfectly on a thank you card. If you are a planner, you may even decide to shoot a special photo that will grace the front of your thank you cards.

If you are planning the photo ahead of time, you may want to incorporate props or signs to hold up that say “thank you.” Chalk boards with elegant script, a garland of letters or a picture frame with poster board all are great props for the newlyweds to showcase in their photos. While you can always add text to your photos during the card customization process, using props or signs gives your cards a unique element that stands out and shows guests you were thinking about each and every one of them on your special day.

Speak with your photographer before the big day even if you don’t plan on using props. Let him or her know that you want to use photos for your thank you card and, even if you don’t have a master plan, the photographer will be able to keep an eye out for special moments that would be perfect for the cards. If you can’t decide on just one photo, create a photo series that shows the joy and excitement of the day. Use your favorite shots from the ceremony, reception or the getaway car to tell the story of your big day.

You don’t have to recreate the day, however. Have an artsy shot from the wedding that you both absolutely fell in love with? Share it with everyone by using it on the thank you cards. Cards don’t have to be adorned by shots of the newlyweds kissing or smiling. Use an artistic shot for a classic thank you that is intriguing and unique. Whatever images resonate with you should be the ones you choose to share with your friends and family.
