1st birthday party ideas
Happy 1st birthday to Aidan! Mom, Mary Beth, shared these photos of her son’s 1st birthday with us on Instagram, and we just had to hear her story and see her 1st birthday party ideas. On her blog, Living the Simple Life, she talks about Aidan’s birthday party and shares how special this birthday is to her and her family: “This party was bittersweet in more ways than one for me.  He is my last baby, so it’s the last first birthday party that I’ll host, but more importantly I never got to throw my first born son a party to celebrate this milestone.  After my first born passed away at 2 and a half months old, life gets put into a different perspective.  Each milestone with all of my children has been HUGE.  It was no different for my Little Man.  To be blessed to have a son again, to know that this is my last baby, to be able to see him reach each milestone, to have each month pass and still have him here in my arms…it has been nothing short of AMAZING!” We are so honored she chose to use Pear Tree for this special day.

We love seeing the way our kids birthday invitations can inspire a whole birthday party theme. Mary Beth used our Photo Booth Session First Birthday Invitations and created a photo-booth-themed party that focused on Aidan turning one. “One of my fave things about the invitation was being able to use pics of him from his whole first year and not have to be forced to only highlight one. We were celebrating all 12 months, 365 days, and 8760 hours of our Little Man, Aidan!”

Mary Beth continued the photo booth theme by creating two backdrops. She used CaravanShoppe to get the digital versions of the artwork and printed it off at her local Staples. The large print of these cameras are perfect for this photo booth theme. She also personalized matching Photo Booth Session kids party decorations and strung them across the backdrop with twine and mini clothespins. She added white balloons with cupcakes, wooden letters and the birthday invitation to the mantel. It makes it such a nice focal point in the living room.

Unicorn Birthday Party Ideas for Girls

Birthday Party Ideas for Girls
Birthday party ideas for girls seem to get more difficult to come up with each year. My daughter and I talked through a few different ideas and finally landed on a unicorn themed party. She loves anything pink and glittery, so we thought this would be the perfect theme to incorporate many shades of pink and several different accent colors.

Magic Unicorn Kids Birthday Invitations
For the invitations, I decided to use Pear Tree Greetings’ Magic Unicorn Mask Kids Birthday Invitations because they were super unique and fun for the kids to open.  I decided to keep the colors of pink and purple to go with the color theme of the party.

The centerpiece for the party was a unique turquoise unicorn that I had found a while ago and always knew that I would eventually be able to use for a party. Continue reading

Featured Favorite: Farm-Themed Kids Birthday Party Ideas

We found this mom, JoAnna, on Instagram when she tagged us in her post sharing that she was excited for her son’s upcoming 2nd birthday party. We loved the Li’l Farmer Twine Package Kids Birthday Invitation she had picked out and wanted to hear her story and see how the party turned out. I think you will agree with us when you see her fun and crafty kids birthday party ideas! We love it.

“As a crafty mommy and love for all things stationery + paper, this was the best invitation set I could ever imagine,” JoAnna shared.

“This was a last minute party planning for me and I searched and searched online and no one had exactly what I was looking for until I saw this farmer set. I jumped right on it for editing and got next business day shipping.” JoAnna personalized each of the three pieces in this invitation set and tied it with the twine to send as a nice package to the guests. (Twine is included with this unique three-piece invitation.)

JoAnna carried out the farm theme by also ordering our matching Li’l Farmer Table Decor Kids Birthday Party Decorations to use as food labels.

On the day of the party, Li’l Farmer Jaxon had to, of course, dress the part. JoAnna said she got the clothes at Nordstrom and the boots at ChildrenSalon.com. How handsome is he?!

I started by putting together the color palette for the party (with lots of pink, of course). I used twisted streamers to add a touch of color to the backdrop of the table, and used pieces from the Little Ladybug Table Décor Kids Party Decorations to add color to the backdrop.

Art-Themed Kids Birthday Party Ideas

When I was looking for kids birthday party ideas for my 5 year old daughter, Kamryn, I knew I needed to have an art-themed birthday party! Kamryn will spend hours drawing and coloring, so it was easy to convince her of the party theme. I started by choosing the Colorful Paint Tray Kids Birthday Party Invitations from Pear Tree Greetings. The invitation fits perfectly with the theme. You can choose a different color for the front and back of the invitation, but I really liked the colors and chose to leave them as shown on the website.Use these kids birthday party ideas to inspire your next party! #kidsbirthday #peartreegreetings #party #art

I wanted a backdrop for the tablescape and decided that a chalkboard would work perfectly. I then used stencils to create words on the board and colored in with chalk.

Girls’ Birthday Party Ideas: Monster Theme!

This little birthday girl, Whitley, is such a sweetie and can make your heart melt with just one look into those big blue eyes. Her parents joke that she can also be a little stinker, getting into mischief and keeping them constantly on their toes. So, for Whitley’s 1st birthday party, her mom, Andrea, knew just which theme to go with – little monsters!

Andrea picked out the My Little Monsters in Purple Kids Birthday Invitations and used pink and purple as the theme for her little girl’s birthday party ideas.

To celebrate springtime in Minnesota, this first birthday party was held outdoors. The front door was decorated as a one-eyed monster and there were various tables set up for gifts, food, and areas for guests to sit. Andrea had ordered Monster Bash Kids Party Decorations and personalized them with pink to match the invitation. Big sister, Mylah (4), was in charge of sticking the party decor to the garage doors while Andrea stuck them to the tables.

Top 5 Kids Birthday Cake Ideas

At Pear Tree I’m known as the team “cake lady,” and working here while running a baking business in my free time certainly has its advantages. I hear what the birthday party themes are before anyone else, I can look at pictures of cakes for hours, and I even get to write blog posts about cakes! Cakes (and cupcakes) are my thing. (The team has a love/hate relationship with me, though, because I bring in extra cupcakes all the time.) I decided that a blog post on kids birthday cake ideas would give me an excuse to bake, and help you with inspiration for your child’s upcoming birthday party!

1. Monster Theme
In case you haven’t noticed, monster parties are all the rage right now! Personally, these are probably my favorite cakes to make. It really doesn’t get much cuter than this. They are easier to make than you think. Just use Tip #234 to cover the cake, making the “fur” longer or shorter, depending on the type of monster you want to create. Choose from our monster kids birthday invitations to match the cake.

2. Barbie and Princess Theme
Barbie cakes have forever been a hit with little girls. I remember having them for my own birthday parties. Bake the cake in an oven-proof bowl and place it upside down on plate to frost. Cut a hole to set the Barbie in, so that the cake forms the skirt of her dress. For the princess castle cake use ice cream cones to create the towers and candy to decorate! We have an assortment of princess kids birthday invitations for whichever cake you choose.

Construction Party Ideas: The Ultimate Boy Party

When I first started thinking about my oldest son’s first ‘friend’ birthday party, I knew the best place to have it was at my husband’s shop. He owns an excavation company, so with lots of big equipment and lots of little boys, I didn’t think I could go wrong.

Since construction equipment plays such a big part of our life, both of my boys know the names of every piece of equipment they see and will correct you if you ever call a front-end loader by the wrong name. I had already thrown two construction themed birthday parties for my oldest son. Both his first and second birthday parties were construction themes, and the only reason 3rd and 4th weren’t was my choice, not his. But inviting his friends put a new spin on it, and forced me to expand my construction party ideas to big-kid activities. (I did get to use many of the same supplies and props, which worked out great!)

I had already used Pear Tree’s construction party invitations before, so for this party, I repurposed our Future On The Line Graduation Invitation, and for the photos, I went down to my husband’s shop and photographed some of the equipment. I figured the boys receiving the invitation would enjoy that more than just photos of my son.
