Princess Party Ideas

When it came time to plan my daughter’s 4th birthday party, I knew that she would love the idea of a princess party. The inspiration for our princess party ideas all started with one of our newest invitation designs, A Princess Like Me Kids Birthday Invitations. This girl’s birthday invitation was great because I could customize the dress, hair, skin and background color on the card to look like my daughter.

What princess party would be complete without a castle? We knew it was a must-have, so my sister and I worked to collect boxes, stacked and decorated them to create a large castle that was placed on the front porch. We painted the castle white and draped a flag banner across the top, made from paint swatches. The girls entered the castle by walking through our front door!

For party activities, the girls made their own princess necklaces out of jewel-colored beads, and played a spin on the classic birthday game, ‘Pin the Lips on the Frog.’

The final decorative challenge was to create an ice cream stand. Thanks to my handy brother-in-law, we were able to create one out of a wood pallet, and draped a lace tablecloth over the top to create a canopy. A Princess Like Me Kids Party Decorations were used to create a banner that we hung across the top. We also used them as coasters for the ice cream toppings, which were all color-coordinated to match, of course!

Top 5 Kids Birthday Cake Ideas

At Pear Tree I’m known as the team “cake lady,” and working here while running a baking business in my free time certainly has its advantages. I hear what the birthday party themes are before anyone else, I can look at pictures of cakes for hours, and I even get to write blog posts about cakes! Cakes (and cupcakes) are my thing. (The team has a love/hate relationship with me, though, because I bring in extra cupcakes all the time.) I decided that a blog post on kids birthday cake ideas would give me an excuse to bake, and help you with inspiration for your child’s upcoming birthday party!

1. Monster Theme
In case you haven’t noticed, monster parties are all the rage right now! Personally, these are probably my favorite cakes to make. It really doesn’t get much cuter than this. They are easier to make than you think. Just use Tip #234 to cover the cake, making the “fur” longer or shorter, depending on the type of monster you want to create. Choose from our monster kids birthday invitations to match the cake.

2. Barbie and Princess Theme
Barbie cakes have forever been a hit with little girls. I remember having them for my own birthday parties. Bake the cake in an oven-proof bowl and place it upside down on plate to frost. Cut a hole to set the Barbie in, so that the cake forms the skirt of her dress. For the princess castle cake use ice cream cones to create the towers and candy to decorate! We have an assortment of princess kids birthday invitations for whichever cake you choose.

New Ways to Meet Mommy Friends

We all know it is tough to meet new mommy friends especially when you are new in town. Read below as one of our Pearistas, See Vanessa Craft, talks about her experience meeting new mommy friends and tips that can help you!

From Vanessa (her bio below):
See Vanessa Craft
I remember that first week of being a new stay at home mom, my husband had to return to work and my mom left back on a plane to New Mexico. It was just me, responsible for keeping this tiny little newborn alive. Cue freak out! Whether you are a working mom or stay at home mom, that transition into your new mom role can be tough. I went from working 70+ hours a week, in a very social job, to only having my colicky newborn to talk to. I loved being able to stay at home with my baby, but we are naturally hardwired to connect to other people – other people that can communicate back with more than a coo or giggle (as priceless as those moments are). I quickly discovered the importance of mommy friends, but how does one make mommy friends? Here are my 5 tips for meeting mommy friends.

Kids Birthday Party Ideas: Searching for Superheroes!

This year’s joint birthday party theme for my boys was a pretty easy decision. As much as I hoped we’d never get into superheroes…we are into it. Big time. Witness the cuteness that is below, my two favorite superheroes of all time.

How could you say no to these two? I couldn’t. As kids birthday party ideas go, the superhero party theme is easy to pull off, but I wanted to put my own creative spin on it and not have it be too commercial, with cartoon characters everywhere. But throwing a little modern touch here, a vintage touch there, I was happy with how it all came together!

As always, my inspiration came from the invitation. Pear Tree’s Searching for Superheroes kids birthday invitations were perfect in many ways. I loved the cityscape and was able to bring that into a few decor details. Although the card is You Pick Color and can be changed in so many ways, I stuck with the original color scheme.

Next came the decor. I wanted some statement pieces that really set the tone and theme of the party. First up, the cake. I suppose that’s not really a true ‘decor’ item, but in this case, I would say it is. I’m so lucky that one of my coworkers is an amazing cake decorator. Is this cake not awesome? Yes, it tasted as good as it looked!

Sending Love Any Time of the Year

While Valentine’s Day may be the usual day to send a love note, I had a different idea this year. I decided to send some love to my family and closest friends by tucking photo strips of my son and his ever-changing faces and poses into a note (I chose Long Distance Love from Pear Tree Greetings). My family and friends enjoyed the randomness of receiving a love note in April, so I wanted to share the idea with you. Below are the steps I did to send some love!

Season Opener: Baseball Party Ideas

When it came time to plan my son Miles’ 2nd birthday, it didn’t take long to come up with a theme. At the tender age of 2, the boy is OBSESSED with anything related to sports. To narrow down the infinite list of possible sports themes, I chose the one that we’re most familiar with: baseball. My husband played baseball growing up, throughout college and still plays today, so I had plenty of baseball party ideas to get me started. Plus, with baseball season just starting, it was perfect timing!

For the invite, I chose Pear Tree’s Baseball All Star Kids Birthday Invitations. I loved that they were simple, featured a picture of Miles and were a unique shape that would stand out in the mail. The coordinating address labels carried the theme through to the envelope and were just as adorable. Additional Tip: On the invitation ask guests to wear their favorite baseball jersey to the party for added fun. My guests knew my love for ‘theme-ing’ and did it without being told. It was awesome!

For the decor, I used red and aqua to create the overall look I was going for. For the table, I purchased a red tablecloth at the local Dollar Store and used a table runner I already had to dress it up. For the centerpiece, I took a simple clear vase and filled it with baseballs, both of which I had lying around the house. I opted for new baseballs for the centerpiece but you could definitely utilize used baseballs to give the party a more vintage feel.

Kids Birthday Party Ideas – Spa Themed Girls Birthday Party

Kids birthday party ideas are hard to come up with! For my daughter’s 5th birthday party, I asked her what she would like for a theme. She mentioned that she wanted to be able to get her nails painted, so I thought it would be fun to create a spa themed kids’ birthday party.

The color palette for the party was inspired by the invitation. I chose to use the Multicolor Celebration kids’ birthday invitation from Pear Tree Greetings, because of the bright, bold colors and the fact that I could include pictures of the birthday girl on the invitation.Kids Birthday Invitations -- Multicolor Celebration
After choosing the invitation, I enlisted the help of my party-planning sister to create the decorations. She decided to create a backdrop out of bold colored paper chains, a polka-dot table cover, and mason jars lined with glitter to hold the utensils.

For the party, we had three stations, including decorating flip-flops with colorful ribbons, foot soaking with manicures and pedicures, and a make-up station. Each station included signage in a custom frame.
