Says the furry lion’s mom, “This is our little one’s first Halloween, and I received his costume the night before his 9-month picture. As soon as I saw the proofs I knew I needed to share our little lion with our family and friends. The BOO card was perfect—simple and clean.”

Halloween Monster Bash by PrettyMyParty.com

Halloween is just weeks away and PrettyMyParty.com wanted to share their spooky, but kid-friendly Halloween party ideas with you!

Googly Eyed Monster Halloween Invitations
This Halloween Monster Bash was so much fun to plan. The fun Googly Eyed Monster Halloween Invitation by Pear Tree Greetings and printable designs from Cupcake With Character were the inspiration behind this shoot. I incorporated red, purple, black and orange throughout the table with chevron accents. I wanted to make it kid-friendly, yet keep the Halloween vibe, so I purchased two black Halloween trees from Michaels. I loved them and knew they would be the perfect “spooky” addition to the dessert table. I’m all about the sparkle, so I thought it would be fun to add that element to the table with glitter accents, including custom-designed red and purple sparkle wooden utensils with monster googly eyes. Thinking of having your own monster bash? Be sure to check out Pear Tree Greetings for everything monster including their Google Eyed Monster Halloween Invitations, Monster Bash Kids Party Decorations, Monster Bash Kids Gift Tags, and Halloween Photo Cards!

Real cards created by real people like you!

Halloween photo cardWhen our customer, Lindsey, decided to take a photo of her son in his new Halloween costume, she was a little worried about getting him to cooperate. “I didn’t think that my son would actually keep the costume on long enough for me to take this photo.” But using a little mom-genuity, she came up with a great idea. “The wagon was a distraction to get him to focus on something else other the big ears, fuzzy feet and long tail. The wagon is a new toy for him (an awesome hand-me-down from his two cousins in Seattle, WA) and since he hasn’t quite figured out how to use it as a walker yet, he likes climbing into and sitting in it.” Great photo? Check.

Mommy Cards go Trick or Treating

Mommy cards are helpful when moving to a new neighborhood!
A customer of ours moved to a new neighborhood in the fall. She had her mommy cards, complete with contact info and her child’s photo already made (her first wise move), but proved she was a genius when she came up with the brilliant idea of taking them along Trick-or-Treating with her child on Halloween. After all, what other time of year is it acceptable to ring every doorbell in the neighborhood and introduce yourself? When she met someone she wanted to connect with, such as a family with kids her own child’s age or, better yet, a potential babysitter, rather than engage in a long conversation (not possible with a giant ladybug tugging at your sleeve to move on) she dropped off a mommy calling card. It was a great way to say, “I’d like to get to know you.” Kudos to you, Mommy. Our customers are the smartest!

I have discovered a holiday that offers great photo ops for kids and have claimed it for my own—Halloween. Ever since my son was born, I have managed to keep the tradition of sending Halloween photo cards every year. I seem to have a bit more time then, before the end-of-the-year activities accelerate into high gear. My family and friends enjoy, and now expect, my personalized Halloween card the week before Halloween.

Halloween Photo Ideas

Over the years, we have learned a few things about taking photos for our annual Halloween photo cards. First, the Halloween photography session at our home is short, since the fun factor never lasts as long as we hope. We think it’s best to take this photo (1) after the kids have napped/rested, (2) earlier in the day rather than later and (3) in the first few minutes after they get into their costumes. Of course it helps tremendously if they love their costumes, and that nothing is poking or scratching or binding. We also try not to put them in their costumes too often before this day, so as not to wear out the excitement. It’s probably a 2-person (minimum) job – one person to entertain and the other to point and click.
