Tips for Fabulous Pet Pictures

Pet pictures
Isn’t it adorable when your pet rolls over and is begging for a belly rub, or sits pretty with their tongue hanging out just waiting for you to toss their favorite toy? These are the moments that are worth capturing. Your pets are part of your family, and their irresistible cuteness deserves a special place on your holiday card this year.

My boyfriend and I have two pups, and I am constantly snapping pics of them with their sweet puppy expressions. This year my holiday card will be splashed with puppy photos, since my friends and family love seeing my pups nearly as much as I do. So here’s a few tips, from one pet lover to another, that will help you take fantastic pet pictures to accent this year’s holiday card.

1. Pick a location
Pet pictures
Find a unique building for your pets to sit in front of, a beautiful nature scene or some unique flooring that complements their fur color. Make sure your location isn’t so enticing that it distracts from your furry friend. After all, you’re taking photos of your pet, not the location.

2. Bribery is a must (a.k.a. treats and toys).
You know your pets will do anything for a treat. So when you need them to stop being their usual hyper selves and sit still, don’t be afraid to bribe them with a treat or a favorite toy. Just hold your bribe of choice up next to your camera or balance it on their nose (if your pet can do tricks), and you’ll have their full attention.

Chalkboard Holiday wrap with paper straw bow

DIY Gift Wrapping ideas
For the holidays, I like a well set table, a tree decorated with care, and above all, I take gift wrapping very seriously.

This year, when I was thinking of new gift wrapping ideas, I used my holiday card for inspiration.  A chalkboard background with red/white stripes with hand script in white.  To make it work I used black craft paper (that resembled a chalkboard), some striped paper straws, red jute and a white chalk pen.

Follow along for an easy to do Christmas gift wrapping idea:

DIY Paper Straw Bow

Materials/Tools:
4 paper straws
Scissors
Jute or yarn
Glue gun
Wrapped box
Chalk pen

Step 1: Start with 4 straws, cut them each in half. Take 4 pieces from those and cut in half again. Next take the 4 largest pieces and cut a small piece off of each. The goal (see pictures) is to have 3 different length straws. 4 large, 8 medium and 4 small which is a total of 16 cut straws pieces. Then cut 6 pieces of string about 2 inches. These don’t need to be exact.

Christmas card shopping Myth #3: You can’t afford cards for everybody on your list

We know, the cards are sooo tempting, but your mailing list is sooo long that you can’t afford to send one of these fun cards to everyone. But we have a few tricks up our sleeve to solve this dilemma. Here are a few ways to trim your budget without trimming your mailing list.

  1. Send 2 different holiday cards: splurge on the card for close friends who live nearby, and send a different card to those who live far away (or at least won’t be comparing cards over the holidays). Or choose a card with room for newsy details to send to those you haven’t seen in a while, and just photos for those you see often.
